APHA's Climate Justice

+

L.E.A.P.

Recognized by the American Public Health Association as recipients of its Climate Justice Award, Loyola University graduate and undergraduate public health students will be hosting an additional LEAP program on the topic of environmental racism during the month of September. Our goal is to utilize L.E.A.P.'s structure as an opportunity to help support growth in knowledge and raise students’ awareness of climate injustices to further encourage students to take action in their own neighborhoods.

Loyola Educating About Public Health ("L.E.A.P")

LEAP is a program designed to educate high school students on the importance of public health, accomplished through educational presentations, interactive quizzes, games, and awarding prizes. Additionally, there is an aspect of mentorship, allowing high school students to build connections with graduate & undergraduate students to gain college preparation insight, career advice, etc.

LEAP workshops will be hosted in person, once a semester at each of the following high schools:

Maywood, IL    Evanston, IL    Berwyn, IL        Cicero, IL

PMSA              Evanston      Morton West.    Morton East

Proviso East                        Morton Freshman

If you choose to join LEAP as a Loyola graduate student, you will be given the opportunity to attend and/or lead workshops with the students, work with students during trivia and games, and be a mentor in small group sessions. Really, you just need to show up and have fun!

If you are interested in being a mentor at these workshops, please email LUPHA@luc.edu.

What Students and Mentors Say About L.E.A.P

I was very happy about the things that I have learned and I feel that it has me a lot of insight into what public health is.

I liked the great amount of information I was able to learn about health. And the opportunity to meet in groups with older and more experienced students/advisors.

I don't think there was anything I didn't like.

I love that younger students are learning about public health topics. I had no idea what public health was in HS so its cool to introduce this topic to them early on.

A very convenient way to spend time with HS students, the opportunity to expose them to Public Health and all of its greatness, very well organization.
